Player Code of Conduct

Horry County Parks and Recreation offers a wide variety of athletic programs for a wide range ages. The main of emphasis our program is on player participation and less on winning. Our parents, coaches, and players understand that though they may compete against other teams and other players, every participant will play and learn as a group and most importantly have an enjoyable time.
  • Remember the Golden Rule Always treat teammates, coaches, officials, opponents and parents the same way you would want to be treated, by showing respect, dignity and sportsmanship at all times, before, during and after the game.
  • Be a Good Support Play by the rules and set a good example. Most importantly, have fun.
  • Listen to Your Coach Coaches volunteer their own time to work with your team. Have respect for your coach and do not waste that time. If you are on the team, your job is to listen to you coach.
  • Include Your Parents Your parents want to see you have fun. Let them experience your world, but remind them that there are ups and downs and that your main goal is to have fun.
  • Never Question an Official Officials want nothing more than a game that is safe and fair. That is not an easy job, so help them out by not talking back or arguing with an official.
  • Learn the Rules Read the rule book so you know how to play fair.
  • Practice Master the fundamentals through practice.
  • Be Patient with Your Teammates Every player has strengths and weaknesses. Be patient with your teammates as they improve their game.
  • Play Hard Hustle never goes out of style. You can be happy if you know you gave your all and you tried your best.
  • Have Fun! Enjoy playing the game and not whether you win or lose. If you are forced to play, let an adult know.

Know Your Goal:

  • Being healthy and active in athletics means avoiding alcohol and drugs. Party drugs or drugs intended to enhance your performance can lead to serious and detrimental effects, including organ damage, cancer and heart attack or stroke.
  • Drugs and alcohol slow reaction time, cloud judgment and can alter critical body functions and over time they can affect brain chemistry, which can reduce the enjoyment you get from things like sports.
  • Every Athlete values being in the moment, staying sharp and enjoying the game. Make smart choices and avoid drugs.
